What is the best time to visit New Zealand?

Updated: May 9, 2020

We believe that the best time to visit New Zealand is at any time except winter unless you are going to do skiing, snowboarding, or any other winter sports or activities. If there is a great snowfall then some roads can be closed for weeks and sometimes even food is being delivered by helicopter. That doesn’t happen often but snow is a common thing. Saying that you have to keep in mind that if you are going to drive in the snow then you need to know-how. In some cases and some roads it might be wise to use chains to avoid accidents. In general – winter is a wonderful time in New Zealand but you have to keep in mind the above.

Spring and autumn can be a bit chilly but it really depends what month you go. Probably the best time to make a road trip and see the best spots in New Zealand and to do all must-do activities in New Zealand is summer. Not a surprise as the best time to visit most destinations in the world is summer.

So what is the summer month in New Zealand? Yes it is all upside down if you are living in Northern Hemisphere. Summer in NZ starts around the 20th of December and ends on the 20th of March. Here is the breakdown that should help you to plan your trip to New Zealand.
