How does a WOW Car Rental look like?

Updated: Jun 6, 2020

This is a WOW car Rental!

So why WOW and why am I talking about this? Have you been to Tenerife before or maybe you are planning to go? If you have been to Tenerife then did you rent a car? Where did you rent and what was your experience? Can you say it was a 5-star experience?

Well, we definitely had the best experience the last time we went.

This is what happened: We decided to go all-inclusive this time. We normally don’t stay in big hotels and instead, we stay in AirBnB as we like the vibe and it's more private. If you click on the link provided for AirBnB then you will get a travel credit, but that's for new users only. So this time we thought – we have two children and we are going on holiday. Let’s treat ourselves and remove the hustle of food shopping, making food and clearing up – if you have children then you can imagine how much time it takes to get through one meal. Our children at the time where aged one and three. So we decided to see how it really is to stay at all-inclusive and is it really worth to pay the price? Normally we chose BnB or camper.

Now about the car rental. We decided to get out and see Tenerife for a couple of days so needed a car. In our hotel, we spotted some kind of self-service pad/station where you can book your rental car. So we looked through the options and honestly, there were not many. Maybe because the company lovesharing is new or it is limited service in the area where we stayed but that is not the point. Between like 5 cars that were offered we spotted an electric car. And it was fully electric. Hmmmmm I thought – how does this work?

The main benefits where:

1st – Price was the same or even cheaper than other cars

2nd – We did not have to pay for gas or electricity

3rd – It was a new experience for us and we always love to try new things

4th – it was big enough for all of us travelling at the time (3 adults and 2 children)

So looking at the above benefits it’s a no brainer that we have to take this offer.

The above photo is the only photo we took with the car we rented, at least you get the idea of what we got. The car was delivered to our hotel exactly at the time we needed it. It is not easy to find the parking so after collection I had to go around the block to find a parking spot but that was not extremely time-consuming or difficult. It would be nice if the hotel would allow using their parking spot that was half empty at the time but that was not a big issue. Just a tip for better customer experience. The guy who dropped the car off was very helpful and explained everything very well. Electric cars are not that much different – it’s just charging that you need to know. But hey – we did not even have to worry about it. We rented this car couple times and only the first time the battery was half full and that was a bit of worry as we didn’t know if it will last all day. There was a map with charge points but we didn’t use it as there was no need, but it’s handy to have it.

We also had our own car rental insurance that works fantastic as takes away the additional fees that comes when you rent the car. We also had our own GPS and car seats for children so those costs were eliminated. Honestly, they are the main things the car rental companies make money on. Especially insurance. Here is the link to the site where we buy our yearly car insurance.

So the first day it was a little unusual to not hear the engine roar but it was actually a good feeling. Just think about it – you go green and don’t do any damage to the environment. Ohh talking about damage – we almost did it anyway. The first day we were driving on a freeway and I noticed that a dog is climbing over the freeway fence and sure enough it managed to get over and started to run over the freeway right in front of us. Luckily we managed to avoid the accident and it was just a little scare for all of us but ended well. And that is why you need extra cover but it doesn’t mean that you have to overpay for it. I think that at the time we paid something like GBP 40 for a whole year and that is for unlimited claims and there are other extras included like 6 drivers and so on what you usually don’t get elsewhere.

How to return it if there is no walk-in-office? Just park it somewhere around the block and log your return in the system by scanning the car code then just drop the key in the box next to the booking station. I drew a little map on return recite so that the guy can easily find the car as I have no clue how he would do it when he needs to collect it. And just for the record – the next time the car battery was fully charged and it removed extra concern as we already knew that it will last all day. The car is charging while you drive as well.

At this point, I have to say that I would happily rent the car again for a day trip. The difficulty could be when you rent it for multiple days – you will have to leave it at the charge point overnight and if it is close to where you are staying then that is not a problem either. Maybe your hotel has a charge point?

Now the main tip for those who rent a car anywhere is to look out for electric cars. Read the terms and if they are as good as our where then go for it. It’s great. No need to waste your time and fill up if your fuel policy is full to full. So, in the end, I would like to say thanks for the service and we will definitely use this company again when we will see them around. I believe they have a bright future.

Let us know about your experience when you rent a car in Tenerife and if you try our suggested company then even better.

Let’s save the world and go green!
